I remember reading a study some years back that suggested that many smart
animals find a solution to a problem that works and just stick with it even
if it is not the optimal way of doing things.
They were trying to compare the problem solving abilities of orangs to
lesser animals and the problem was that some of the orangs were happy to go
with a one in three chance of being right the first time and a one in two
chance the second time as long as they got the food under the bowl. |
