I'm looking for information about Olympus MD Plan Objectives. Does anyone
have a Olympus Broschure with a description that they can post? I don't know
exactly what kind of objectives the MDplan are. The objectives that I
purchased are marked:
Olympus MDPlan
infinity symbol/-
f=180
Will I need a special attachment to change the focal length from 160 to 180? |

I think M stands for Medium and D stands for distance. I think an MD
objective is a medium distance objective.
I'm not sure about the infinity symbol.

I have an Olympus BX metallurgical catalogue that lists MPlan and
MPlanApo objectives, so I suspect that yours are something similar.
Metallurgical objectives are designed for use with a lighting system
that shines light down through the objective to illuminate an opaque
subject, without a coverslip. They are not designed for use with
transparent subjects and transmitted light.
The infinity symbol shows that these lenses are not intended to be used
on microscopes with a 160mm tube length. They need an additional lens
within the tube to produce a viewable image. You can't use an
attachment - you need a compatible microscope.
