LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Occidental Petroleum Corp. said Tuesday it has
made what could be the largest oil and natural gas discovery in
California in 35 years.

A whole 150M-250M barrels LOL.

Drill, baby, drill...that'll save us. I mean who knows how much oil
is out there? We might actually find 500M barrels somewhere or
something, which would last a whole couple of weeks if we could
extract it at a rate 10x that of the largest field on the planet.

Personally, I blame environmentalists for the lack of new oil in the
earth. It is their fault that the only decent finds in the past
decade have been like 10 miles down and they won't let us drill for
the couple billion barrels that are on the continental shelf. It's
also clearly NIMBYs' faults that the biggest find in the past 5-10
years will only produce 1/170th of daily consumption.

Who knows how much oil is out there? It's not like anybody has been
looking, have they?

We all need to go into our backyards and shoot into the ground,
preferably with a musket. Chances are at least some of us will strike
oil. Of course, with all the additional money it brought in, those
people would want to move to a nicer, more upscale neighborhood...

Great movie. I never did like the TV show version, however.
