I have all the answers but don't understand this:
18-down Protection for racer left way of getting out in crash (4, 3)
R?L? B?R
I figure this must be ROLL BAR, which is "Protection for racer", but the
wordplay escapes me, other than "left" is probably one of the L's.

Probably RO(L-LB)AR. LB = leg before = way of getting out (cricket,
more usually LBW)
