Riding around with my son during the weekend, day time... Saw 2 bikes
with triple lightbars turned on. They were much more visible than my
son and I (we switch bikes on and off). During the day, mind you, my
son on his Ninja 500 had to be pretty darn close for me to even see his
lights burning. My Honda aero was only slightly better. The bikes with
the triple lightbars were very visible even from far off.

I think they look cool as part of accessorizing a cruiser, but am not
sure I want but so much junk on my bike. Then again, the safety factor
(perceived or otherwise) might change my mind.

Now, as to turn signals... my son's Ninja 500 has these tiny, clear
turn signals that are 1/4 the size of mine. They pass state inspection,
but I think they are worthless unless you are right on his tail and can
see them. I prefer to be seen form cars farther back so they know to
stop!

I want to get him replacements, but he's not buying it; thinks it will
detract form the look of his bike... Geezsch, what look; they're
practically invisible now! His mirrors are also under-sized.

I'll probably get him turn signal lights if he'll let me; maybe some
kind of LED so as not to over power the look of his bike with arge
signals. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Greg

If you want to be visible it's worthwhile to consider a headlight

modulator. No junk on the bike, very distinctive visual signature.

Here's my little testimonial:

I've recently, in July, got my first bike with a lightbar. People do seem to
notice me more often. I haven't had near as many cars pull out on me. It's
also the biggest bike I've owned though so it may just be I'm more visible
due to overall size. I went from a 650 V Star to a 1500 Intruder. Either way
I like the look of the bar on this particular bike. I've noticed myself that
some of the sports bikes and on/off road bikes are poorly lit. Some of the
turn signals are almost non existent and the headlights very dim. I'm happy
this bike came with the light bar. I'm not sure I'd have spent the extra $
for it myself. Brad

A lot of information here about lightbars, reflective clothing and
such: http://www.webbikeworld.com/
These two places sell lights that don't mount on a lightbar:
http://www.saeng.com/default.htm
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/
One of the above claims it's better to have the lights in a triangle
pattern rather than in a line like on a lightbar. Both sites lights are
spendy.
I've gotten some stuff from the next one. Pretty good about returns.
Reader reviews on most products.
